Brenda is actually a character from a series pitch I sent to Slave Labor Graphics in ye olden days. She was Brenda Grimm, the last in a long line of folklore collectors who regaled readers with manga-esque retellings of obscure fairytales. My art was really bad, but they were kind enough to send me a nice rejection note

Brenda is also the token lesbian of the series, which was something I wanted to work with more in later comics but never got the chance to expand upon.
